THE FAMILY MINISTRY OF SOUTH PRESBYTERIAN

The Family Ministry of South Presbyterian Church has the mandate to support the families of our community to strengthen family life and find in Jesus Christ healing, renewal and direction.

Our Elders Sonia and Ray Camorro are the directors for this new ministry. Let us give them all the support and prayers towards a successful ministry.

Couples Retreat
The Family Ministry started its ministry in 2008 calling for a Couples Retreat at Stony Point Center on June 28th. Ten couples will leaft from South Presbyterian at 7am in car pooling to Stony Point, after a continental breakfast, the group had its gathering. With bible study, group dynamics and expositions on relationship, communication, partnering and many other issues the group spent the day encountering Christ in each and every aspect of their relationship. We concluded at 5pm and return to Yonkers.

OUR VISION AND MISSION
South Presbyterian Church sees itself in a unique moment and place in time. The City of Yonkers moves quickly to a redesign and renovation, without overlooking its very diverse population. Immigration, community and economic development, racial relations, jobs, health and housing are all issues that challenge a disciple of Christ in this city. As a church for all the people of Yonkers we see ourselves called to love and serve all people in the name of Christ towards a truly multicultural community. We are blessed with peoples from Scottish, Guyanese, East Asian, Ethiopian, Ghanian, Caribbean, Nicaraguan, Mexican, Venezuelan, Brazilian and far more backgrounds.

MUSIC FOR TODAY - Our Music Ministry has a new project. We have started the learning of new hymns in order for us to cover the about 80% of the new hymnal. We also are starting a sing along group that will sing carols during Christmas and perform Las Posadas. Join us.
Our Choir is also a great opportunity for you to learn and serve. Music is a necessary learning for all of us. Speak today with Charlie.

Let us serve our Lord and Savior with everything that we are and have. In God, through God and for God we exist.

Social Justice Ministry
The Social Justice Ministry of South Presbyterian Church has the mandate to witness, love, and serve all peoples embodying God’s grace.
This year the Social Justice Ministry has devised a series of events aimed at serving and engaging our local neighborhood. Please see bellow our calendar of events coming up soon.

Cultural Nights- Brazilian and Caribbean
The Social Justice Ministry sponsored our first Cultural Night on Saturday July 19th, from 6-9pm. The event aims at fostering multicultural understanding and appreciation while discerning God’s love and grace in the way culture unfolds life. Cultural information, dance lessons and food is part of the program. Our first night focused on the Caribbean and Brazil. For information or reservation please contact our church office, or email to justice @sopres.org.

Immigration Clinic
The Social Justice Ministry launched the dream of having our own Immigration Clinic here at South Presbyterian on July 18th, from 5-9pm. JFON – Justice for Our Neighbors joined us in bringing Immigration Lawyers for free consultation and a workshop on “Know Your Rights”. In these times of fear and isolation, the Spirit of God invites us to proclaim God’s Sovereignty by serving and denouncing all forms of exclusion and privilege.
