SOUTH PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH HAS PARTNED WITH JUSTICE FOR OUR NEIGHBORS (JFON)
"JFON is a network in mission of the United Methodist Committee on Relief, Annual Conferences, local congregations, and ecumenical partners. The General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church initiated Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON) in 1999 as a response to increasingly complex immigration regulations stemming from the far-reaching immigration law of 1996." read more
OPENING OF THE CLINIC IS HISTORICAL
After an initial mock clinic in June, the services of the Yonkers Clinic oppened to the public in September 2008 with more than 10 clients served.
The occasion marked a historical moment in the life of South Presbyterian Church, precisely in her 101st year of ministry, our church reaches its true vocation with immigrants. From the initial Scottish settlers, the Arminians, and then the Latinos, Africans, and Caribeans South Presbyterian Church is called to love and serve every immigrant. During the initial training, one JFON member observed:
"I had never seen such diverse group! You don't have two people here from the same country!"
VOLUNTEERING IS EASY
Our clinic has opportunities of service for any person interested in serving the community, willing to go through screening and training, and willing to sign the terms of commitment and confidentiality.
This is a great oppotunity for youth groups, young professionals as well as retired fellows. Give us a call and ask for our volunteers coordinator.
